House & Why

Editorial policy

A useful guide should answer the question clearly and show where the answer comes from.

Research before writing

Each guide begins with a specific reader need. Our process includes studying the question, comparing existing answers, researching reliable sources, identifying gaps and safety concerns, and preparing an editorial brief before drafting.

Sources and factual checks

We prefer directly applicable primary sources: manufacturer instructions, product labels, official safety guidance, and original research where relevant. We distinguish evidence from inference and disclose uncertainty. A search snippet, forum comment, or AI response is not proof.

Clear answers, visible limits

Guides should give the central answer early, then explain checks, exceptions, next steps, and stop conditions. We do not add length, repeated FAQs, or unnecessary steps simply to target search engines.

Authors and reviewers

Bylines must identify real contributors and link to a profile explaining their role and relevant experience. We use an expert-review label only when a named, appropriately qualified person has actually performed that review. Editorial checking is not the same as technical review.

AI assistance

AI tools may assist with research organization, drafting, editing, and illustration. They do not replace source verification or editorial responsibility, and they are not credited as fictional human authors. Material synthetic content is identified when readers could otherwise mistake it for real evidence.

Testing and original images

We claim a hands-on test only when it was actually performed and documented. We do not invent before-and-after results, product experience, credentials, or quotations. When the absence of independent testing matters to a reader's decision, the guide should make that limit clear.

Corrections and updates

Material changes must be checked and recorded. We do not change dates simply to make a page appear fresh. To report a factual, accessibility, or safety issue, use our corrections page.
