House & Why

Safety standards

This site is not an emergency service.

Do not use a contact or corrections form to seek urgent help. If there is immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service in your location.

Safety is part of the answer

Some household subjects involve serious consequences: chemical exposure, electricity, gas, hazardous materials, contamination, water damage, or pests. Covering a subject does not mean every procedure is appropriate for a general reader.

Risk changes the editorial requirements

Routine care still requires material and product checks. Higher-risk guidance requires directly applicable primary sources, visible warnings, clear boundaries, and qualified technical review when necessary. Important safety information belongs before the relevant action, not in a disclaimer at the bottom.

No unsupported procedures

If reliable evidence or appropriate review is unavailable, we should narrow the scope, explain what is unknown, or decline to provide procedural instructions. A warning cannot make an unsupported instruction acceptable.

Local and product differences matter

Guides should identify regional limits and avoid assuming that a product name, formulation, emergency number, or regulatory requirement applies worldwide. Manufacturer instructions and the exact product label must not be replaced by a generic assumption.

Report a concern

Use the correction form to flag potentially unsafe or inaccurate content. Include the page URL and the specific passage. Do not include medical records, identification documents, or other sensitive personal details.
